 Abul Pakir Jainulabuddin Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu in a Muslim family.  His father Jainulabuddin was a sailor and mother Ashiamma was a housewife.  The qualities and values ​​of the parents had an influence on him from his childhood.  Inherited the virtues of honesty and self-discipline from the father, and faith in God and compassion from the mother.  This became the inspiration for his creativity in life.  His family's economic condition was not good, so he had to work from an early age.  As a child, Kalam used to sell newspapers after school to help his father financially.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1981, to a Tamil Muslim family in the pilgrimage center of Rameswaram on Pamban Island. It was then in the Madras Presidency under British India and is now in the State of Tamil Nadu.

 

APJ Abdul Kalam’s father Jainulabdeen Marakayar was a boat owner and imam of a local mosque while his mother Ashiamma was a housewife. His father also owned a ferry that took Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram and the now uninhabited Dhanushkodi.

APJ Abdul Kalam was the youngest of four brothers and one sister in his family. His family had been wealthy Marakayar traders and landowners, with numerous properties and large tracts of land. With the opening of the Pamban Bridge to the mainland in 1914, however, the businesses failed and the family fortune and properties were lost over time, apart from the ancestral home.

As a young boy Kalam had to sell newspapers in order to support his family which was poverty-stricken and was surviving on a meager income.

APJ Abdul Kalam in his school years had average grades, however, he was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn. He spent hours on his studies, particularly mathematics. After completing his education at Schwartz Higher secondary school, Abdul Kalam went to attend St. Joseph’s College and graduated in Physics in 1954. He then moved to Madras in 1955 to study aerospace engineering in the Madras Institute of Technology.

 

APJ Abdul Kalam as a Scientist

. .  Scientific Introduction of APJ Abdul Kalam:-

 

 After completing his engineering studies from the Madras Institute of Technology, Kalam joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist.  Dr.  Kalam began his career by designing small helicopters for the Indian Army.  But Dr.  Kalam was not getting satisfaction from working in DRDO.  Dr.  Kalam was also a member of the Indian Space Research Committee formed by Pandit Jawaharlal  During this time he met the famous space scientist Dr.  Got an opportunity to work with Vikram Sarabhai.  He was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969.  Here he was appointed as the Director of India's Satellite Launch Vehicle Project.  As a result of the success of this project, India's first satellite 'Rohini' was placed in the Earth's orbit in the year 1980.  Joining ISRO was the most important turning point in Dr. Kalam's career and when he started working on the Satellite Launch Vehicle project, he felt like he was doing what he thought.

 

 During 1963-64, he also visited the US space agency NASA.  Nuclear scientist Raja Ramanna, under whose supervision India conducted its first nuclear test, also invited Kalam to witness the nuclear test at Pokhran in 1974.

 

 In the 70s and 80s, Dr.  Abdul Kalam became very famous in India due to his works and success and earned him a place among the greatest scientists of the country.  His fame rose to such an extent that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi allowed him to work on some secret projects without the approval of her cabinet.

The Government of India launched an ambitious 'Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme' under the supervision of Dr Kalam.  He was the chief executive of this project.  This project has given the country missiles like Agni and Prithvi.

From July 1992 to December 1999, Dr.  Kalam was Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).  India conducted its second nuclear test during this period.  He played an important role in it.  Dr. Kalam was the coordinator of this project along with R. Chidambaram.  The media coverage he received during this time made him the greatest nuclear scientist of the country.

 

 In 1998, Dr.  Kalam, along with cardiologist Soma Raju, developed a low-cost coronary stent.  Its name was 'Kalam-Raju Stent'.

 

 Dr.  APJ Abdul Kalam as the President of India:-

 

 Considering his achievements and fame as a conservation scientist, N.  d.  a.  The coalition government made him the presidential candidate in the year 2002.  He defeated his rival Lakshmi Sehgal by a wide margin and was sworn in as the 11th President of India on 25 July 2002.  Dr.  Abdul Kalam was the third President of the country to be awarded the Bharat Ratna before becoming President.  Earlier Dr. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Zakir Hussain were awarded 'Bharat Ratna' before becoming President.

 

 During his tenure, he was known as the 'People's President'.  At the end of his tenure, he also expressed a desire for a second term, but due to lack of consensus among political parties, he dropped the idea.

 

 At the end of 12th President Pratibha Patil's term, his name was once again mooted as the next possible President, but due to lack of consensus, he dropped the idea of ​​his candidacy.

 Dr. Kalam went to IIM Shillong to deliver a lecture on “Creating a Livable Planet Earth” on 27 July 2015. While he was climbing the stairs, he expressed some discomfort, but he ignored it and proceeded to the auditorium.  He suddenly collapsed in the lecture hall at 6.35 in the morning after giving a lecture for only five minutes.  He was taken to Bethany Hospital in critical condition.  He was admitted to the intensive care unit, but his condition was critical.  At 7:45 am, he was pronounced dead of a heart attack.  Along with India, the entire world mourned the loss of a great scientist.

 

 Interesting facts about Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

 

 A man who spent nearly five decades in public service, including a stint as President, owned no property, TV, fridge, car, AC, but owned around 2500 books, six shirts, a pair of shoes, a wrist watch, four trousers and three suits.

 

 He did not accept any gift from anyone except books.

 

 He never charged any fees for lectures delivered inside or outside the country.

 

 His love for technology is no secret.  He kept track of all the latest happenings in the country and abroad mainly through radio.

 

 He was a vegetarian and was happy with whatever was served.

 

 He was the Holy Spirit.  He never forgot his morning prayer.

 - After becoming the President in the year 2002, Dr. Kalam went to Kerala for the first time.  At that time two people were invited to the Kerala Raj Bhavan as the guests of the President.  The first was a boot-shoe repairer and the second was the owner of a dhaba... Both of them met while living in Thiruvananthapuram..

 

 - Dr.  Kalam never saved anything for his family.  When he was in the office of the President, he left his savings and salary in the name of a trust.. He said that I have become the President of the country, so as long as I am alive, the government will take care of me, so what is the need for me to keep my salary and savings.  ..

 

 - Dr.  When Kalam was the director of DRDO, one day a junior scientist came to Dr Kalam and said that I have promised my children that he will take them to see the exhibition so that they can be released early.  Kalam sir happily agreed.  But the junior scientist was so lost in the work that he forgot to go home early.  When he reached home at night, he was shocked to know that Dr.  Kalam reached his home on time and also took the children to watch the performance.

 

 - In the year 2013 he was invited as the chief guest at the convocation ceremony at IIT Varanasi where a special chair was arranged for him.  Which was much bigger than the usual chairs there.  But Dr.  Kalam refused to sit in that chair and sat only when the organizers called for a normal chair like the rest.

When he became the Director of DRDO in 1982, there was talk of increasing the security of DRDO.  A proposal was also made to install glass pieces on its four walls, but Kalam did not approve this proposal.  He said that by installing pieces of glass on the four walls, the birds will not be able to sit and the chances of getting injured will also increase.  These sensitive thoughts of his did not put pieces of raw material on the wall of DRDO.

 - Dr.  One of the characteristics of Kalam was that he does not offend his fans.  Dr.  When Kalam came as the chief guest at a program at IIM Ahmedabad, before the program the students called Dr.  Had lunch with Kalam and took pictures with him on the request of the students.  Keeping in mind the time limit of the program, the organizers refused to take the photos of the students, after which Dr.  Kalam promised the students that when the program ends, I will not leave until I have my picture with all of you.

During his visit, Dr.  Abdul Kalam often used to narrate an incident from his childhood.  Dr.  Kalam says that when he was eight or nine years old, one evening his father was having dinner after coming home from work.. There was a burnt roti in the plate.  At night, Kalam heard his mother apologizing to his father for the burnt roti.  Then father very lovingly replied that I like burnt roti too.  When Kalam asked his father about this, he said that - Burnt breads never hurt anyone but bitter words definitely hurt.. So accept each other's mistakes in a relationship with love... and have compassion for those who dislike you.
