India launches GSAT-24 satellite, to be used for Tata Play DTH.

India's GSAT- 24 satellite launched, entire capacity leased to Tata Play

NewSpace India Limited( NSIL) launched GSAT- 24 in its first" demand- driven" communication satellite charge post space sector reforms, leasing the entire capacity on board to Direct- to- Home( DTH) service provider Tata Play.

Erected by Indian Space Research Organisation for NSIL, the satellite was successfully placed into geostationary route by the Ariane 5 rocket, operated by French company Arianespace, from Kourou in French Guiana( South America) on Thursday.

GSAT- 24 is a 24- Ku band communication satellite importing 4180 kg withpan-India content for meeting DTH operation needs.

NSIL, incorporated in March 2019, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise( CPSE), under Department of Space( DOS) and is the marketable arm of ISRO.

As part of" space reforms" blazoned by the Government  in June 2020, NSIL was commanded to take over functional satellite  Operations on a" demand driven" model, wherein it has the responsibility to make, launch, own & operate satellites and give services to its married client.

The entire satellite capacity on- board GSAT- 24 will be leased to its married client Tata Play, the DTH business of Tata Group, for meeting their DTH operation requirements.

The Ariane 5 has successfully placed two satellites into geostationary route MEASAT- 3d for the Malaysian driver MEASAT, and GSAT- 24, Arianespace said after launching them on- board Ariane- V VA257 flight from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's spaceport in Kourou.

GSAT- 24 is configured on ISRO's proven I- 3k machine with a charge life of 15 times.

"'Demand- driven' mode principally means when the satellite is found, one will know who the end guests are going to be and what is the kind of utilisation and commitment so that you have veritably effective utilisation of this satellite capacity once it goes into route", an NSIL functionary explained.

"before, the mode was further force driven, with capacity being leased after the launch with largely no firm commitment by guests before hand", the functionary noted.

"The entire charge is completely funded by the NSIL-- satellite, launch, launch crusade, insurance, transportation, in- route conservation and support. Once the satellite is over in route, this will be completely possessed and operated by NSIL," NSIL Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan Durairaj told PTI.
