In Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), account holders are allowed to maintain an average monthly balance. Under the scheme, rural and urban dwellers can also open their own bank accounts under the scheme.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur said, "A total of 41.75 crore accounts have been opened across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Jandhan Yojana. Out of which 35.96 crore accounts are operative.

If you also want to open your account under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, you will need an Aadhaar card. If the address given in the Aadhaar card has changed, an affidavit has to be filed for it. But if you do not have an Aadhaar card, you can open an account with water ID card, driving license, passport or even MNREGA card in other documents. If your current address has not changed in any of these documents then this is enough for your address and credentials.
