India become third-largest producer of Electricity in the world
   The world energy statistics published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2019 states that India is the 3rd largest producer of electricity in the world.
   India ranked 106th in terms of per capita consumption in 2017.
   India has now become a power surplus from a power deficit situation.

SIDBI to start Swavalamban Express on 5 June
   Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) is to start Swavalamban Express on 5 June 2020.
   The aim is to promote budding business aspirants and entrepreneurs.
   SIDBI will start a special train based on the opinions and suggestions of various stakeholders.
   Swavalamban Express will depart from Lucknow on 5 June. The journey will be for 15 days, and will cover about 7000 km of track.
   The express will travel to the 11 entrepreneurial cities including Ahmedabad, Bengauru, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi.
   A candidate who is aged between 20 and 35 years can apply for the journey. Aspirants who want to start their own business or running a small business can apply for the Swavalamban Express journey.

ARPIT train more than 1.8 Lakh teachers in 2 years
   Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) announced that the initiative Annual Refresher ProgrammeIn Teaching (ARPIT) is successfully implemented in the past two years for the professional development of higher education faculty.
   ARPIT program was launched in 2018.
   The program aims to enhance the teaching quality in higher education which includes online professional development of 15 lakh higher education faculty.
   ARPIT is a step of government towards “HarEkkaamDeshKeNaam”.
   In 2018-19, 37199 teachers were trained under this program, and in 2019-20, 146919 teachers were trained under the program.
Government of India bans exports of masks and coveralls due to COVID-19
   The Central government has announced a ban on the export of Ventilators, Surgical/Disposable Masks (⅔ ply) and Textile raw material used for masks and coveralls.
   A notification regarding this was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
   The move is to increase the availability of critical protective gear for healthcare professionals dealing with coronavirus.

Former CJI RanjanGogoi takes oath as a nominated member of Rajya Sabha
   He was 46th Chief justice of India and retired in November 2019.
   According to Article 80-B(3): The member to be nominated by the President shall consist of persons having special knowledge of practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service.

Ex-SBI chief Arundhati Bhattacharya resigns from Crisil Board
   Crisil on Thursday said Arudhati Bhattacharya, the past chairman of State Bank of India, has submitted her resignation as independent director of the company effective April 15.
   In her resignation, she has indicated that the reason for her resignation is her decision to accept a full time role as Chairperson and CEO in Swift India.

Finland is again world’s happiest
   The World Happiness Report is an annual publication of the United Sustainable Development Solution Network.
   It contains articles and ranking of national happiness based on respondent ratings of their own lives, which the report also correlates with various life factors. As of March 2019, Finland was ranked the happiest country in the world twice in a row.
    India ranked 144 in this happiness index with 3.573 points out of 10.
